The 2017 13-3 season with my Grandad being the “lucky charm/donut man”. Minneapolis Miracle, JJs many catches of recent years.
Have You Attended Any Games Stateside?
Two games stateside both post-Met. Both in 2019. Week 6 Eagles at US Bank 20-38 Vikes. Then at Detroit for a 42-30 win for the Vikes.
Have You Attended Any Games in London?
I’ve missed two of the London series Cardinals due to being before my time and the Steelers at Wembley. Though that wasn’t because I didn’t want to go, I wasn’t old enough to go alone and no one would supervise me so I couldn’t go.
Tell Us About the ‘Sprinkles are for Winners’ Hashtag
The #SprinklesAreForWinners hashtag started within 30 minutes for me after the Browns got overturned by our marvellous Vikings in October 2017 at Twickenham stadium.
I sat in the same endzone that Thielen did the first pump knee slide (some 15 rows from the front lower tier). Phenomenal! I was going ballistic! I was also spurred on by the two Packers fans who’d been annoying me all game rooting for the Browns. Jokes on them, they got fed up midway through the 3rd quarter and left! Two sections to my right, close to where John Randle started his stadium lap during the game, three Vikings World Order members and my good friend David Truman were also celebrating the first downs, touchdowns, and Viking triumphs as they came about. We met up shortly after the game for their first “Cheeky” Nandos. A running joke to this day! One of my friends saw the Krispy Kreme vendor at the back of our sections on the outside concourse and bee-lined there. Returning with a box, they handed me half of one and declared “Sprinkles are for Winners’ and thus the hashtag was born!
My grandad, aka Sir FourFour VWO (Honorary), adopted my Chuck Foreman #44 jersey to get involved. With me being a first-generation Vikings fan, he wanted to share my enthusiasm and purple passion like I’d shared his passion for football, rugby, cricket, and various other sports. He did not really understand the game due to his various ailments and early onset Lewy Body Dementia, making it more confusing than simple to follow. All he needed to know was that purple in the endzone was as great as a rugby try! When we won we’d get donuts the next day. We gained a bit of weight over the 13-3 season. Oops! We continued to do this as much as we could before my Grandad ended up in a nursing home before his sad passing on October 5th, 2019, merely days before my two-week trip to Minnesota for the first time. Now the #SprinklesAreForWinners hashtag, photos and donuts pay mere homage to a great man, mentor, and my best friend. This keeps his memory alive and I am able to look back with fond memories of the great times. It’s also something that has been taken onboard by a lot of friends in the USA and UK Minnesota Vikings Community.
For those that do partake in the hashtag, I love you all! The donuts certainly make Victory Monday all the sweeter if you pardon the pun! SKOL!
