With the Minnesota Vikings’ elimination from the 2024 NFL playoffs following their loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night, their position in the draft order for 2025 has been confirmed.
As the team with the best record among those knocked out in the wild card round, the Vikings hold the 24th pick in each round of the draft, subject to trades. The 2025 draft will be held at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on 24-26 April 2025.
What picks do the Vikings have in the 2025 NFL draft?
- 1st round, 24th overall
- 5th round, TBD overall
- 5th round, TBD overall
As a result of a series of trades over the last couple of years, the Vikings currently do not have picks in the second, third, fourth, sixth or seventh rounds of the 2025 NFL draft. Their second-round pick was traded to the Houston Texans in exchange for a first-round pick in 2024.
That pick was eventually traded on to the Jacksonville Jaguars along with third and fourth-round picks in the 2025 draft in order to move up to the 17th overall pick in 2024 and select linebacker Dallas Turner.
The Vikings picked up an extra fifth-rounder in the 2025 draft as part of the trade that sent pass rusher Za’Darius Smith to the Cleveland Browns, but at the expense of our last two picks in 2025.
Will the Vikings get any compensatory picks in the 2025 NFL draft?

RB Alexander Mattison was drafted with a compensatory pick in 2019
Compensatory picks will be assigned when the team owners meet in the spring, and can be anywhere from the third round to the seventh round.
The formula takes the team’s gains and losses in the previous year’s free agency into account, cancelling out comparable transactions to arrive at a minimum of 32 compensatory selections.
The Vikings are expected to be allocated the top third-round compensatory pick to account for the loss of quarterback Kirk Cousins, while all other gains and losses were cancelled out.
What needs do the Vikings have in the 2025 NFL draft?
2025 Vikings draft needs: CB, S, DL, OL
The Vikings are set to lose three cornerbacks in free agency who played at least 50% of snaps in 2024: Byron Murphy, Stephon Gilmore and Shaq Griffin. At a total cost of $20.3m this season and a likely price hike for 2025, the Vikings will probably only be able to afford one or two and will have to dip into the draft to fill out the cornerback room.
There will also be a need in the defensive secondary, with Cam Bynum hitting free agency and Harrison Smith potentially retiring. That will leave only strong safety Josh Metellus from this season’s starting lineup, although Bynum is a likely candidate to be re-signed in the coming months. The defensive line is also currently set to need reinforcements, with both Jerry Tillery and Jonathan Bullard hitting free agency this offseason.
Lastly, while the Vikings have Pro Bowl-calibre talent bookending the offensive line, the interior has needed improvement for some time. Dalton Risner was a mainstay at right guard in the second half of the season, but given the uncertainty over his re-signing last offseason, as well as the inconsistent form of Blake Brandel and Ed Ingram, a pickup at guard will be a priority in the draft. Center Garrett Bradbury remains under contract for another year, but ranked in the bottom five for pass blocking according to Pro Football Focus and will be a candidate for replacement.
