Minnesota Vikings @ New York Giants
MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
December 21, 2025 – 6:00 p.m. GMT

J. J. McCarthy rushed for a touchdown and passed for two more against the Cowboys

The Vikings play their last road game of the year this Sunday, completing their slate against the NFC East with a trip to play the New York Giants. The G-Men have just two wins on the year, their last coming against the Eagles more than two months ago.

With the Vikings eliminated from postseason contention, they’ve taken the opportunity to rest a few of their more banged-up players. Despite their weakened ranks, though, the Vikings have a good record at MetLife Stadium in recent years, and with J. J. McCarthy and the offense showing positive signs the last two weeks, now is a good time to face a team with one of the worst defenses in the league.

The last two weeks have seen the Vikings come out victorious against two other teams from the NFC East – the Washington Commanders and, more surprisingly, the Dallas Cowboys. Can they make it three from three this Sunday? Read on to find out how you can watch this week’s contest and what the Vikings will have to do to secure victory.

Keys to the game

Justin Jefferson has cut a frustrated figure for the Vikings all season

The last few weeks have shown that the run game is the key to making the Vikings offense click this season. Although the Cowboys were able to limit Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason to less than 3 yards per carry last week, the Vikings notched two scores on the ground and also ran the ball 28 times, allowing them much greater control over the clock and the amount of time the defense spent on the field.

The focus can’t be all on the run game, though, as some level of complementary football will be required to come away with the win. More so than normal, all eyes will be on WR Justin Jefferson, who needs 168 more yards to continue his streak of 1,000-yard seasons. He hasn’t managed that many yards in a single game since January 2024, but if he can break 100 yards for only the third time this season, it’ll take the pressure off for the final two games.

The defense will be weakened by OLB Jonathan Greenard and S Joshua Metellus going on injured reserve for the remainder of the season, as well as the absence of DL Javon Hargrave. However, this will give some of the rotation guys the opportunity to stake a claim to a more prominent roster spot for next season. Dallas Turner is expected to start in place of Greenard, and Metellus’ absence will see more snaps for Jay Ward and Theo Jackson, while Levi Drake Rodriguez and rookie DL Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins will benefit from Hargrave being sidelined.

Previous meetings

The Vikings and the Giants have met 28 times in the regular season. The Vikings lead the series 18–10, including five wins in their last six on the road, a run stretching back to 1999. The most recent of those wins came in the opening game of last season, when Sam Darnold announced himself as a true NFL starting quarterback, leading the team to a 28–6 victory. Aaron Jones scored his first touchdown as a Viking that day, while Andrew Van Ginkel recorded the first of his two pick-sixes of the season.

Vikings injury report

The biggest injury news to come out of Sunday’s win over the Cowboys was that OLB Jonathan Greenard would be undergoing surgery on the shoulder injury he aggravated during the game. He was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, along with S Josh Metellus, who’s been carrying a shoulder injury.

T Christian Darrisaw was ruled out of the Giants game on Friday after missing all three of the week’s practice sessions, and head coach Kevin O’Connell announced the team’s intention to place Darrisaw on IR. He went into last Sunday’s contest as questionable, but was downgraded to out – possibly once the Vikings’ postseason fate was sealed. With Darrisaw injured, they signed T Caleb Etienne to the practice squad on Monday as extra offensive line depth.

DL Javon Hargrave was also ruled out for Sunday after missing the entire week of practice with a thigh injury. T Brian O’Neill (heel) was listed as questionable, along with RB Ty Chandler and rookie TE Gavin Bartholomew, both of whom are in their 21-day practice window to return from IR. C Ryan Kelly (knee), LB Austin Keys (ankle) and WR Jalen Nailor (back) had no injury designation on Friday despite being limited in practice during the week, although Keys and Nailor were both full participants in Friday’s session.

Giants injury report

The Giants ruled four players out of Sunday’s game, most notably OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux, who hasn’t played since injuring his shoulder against the Bears in week 10. T Evan Neal (neck/hamstring) was also ruled out after feeling some soreness in his first session after his window to return from injured reserve was opened on Tuesday. The other players ruled out were DT Rakeem Nuñez-Roches (ankle) and WR Beaux Collins (concussion/neck), who is also in the window to return from IR.

OL Joshua Ezeudu (calf), LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (illness), CB Art Green (illness/hamstring) and CB Rico Payton (back) were designated as questionable. P Jamie Gillan (knee), WR Gunner Olszewski (concussion) and CB Dru Phillips (heel) did not have a designation despite appearing on the injury report earlier in the week.
