New England Patriots @ Minnesota Vikings
U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN
August 16, 2025 – 6 p.m. BST
Coming off the back of a victory at home to the Texans on the weekend, the Vikings continue their preparations this Saturday against the New England Patriots. The two teams have been engaged in joint practices this week, allowing for a shake-up of the usual intra-squad routine, but it’s this weekend’s game that will provide the sternest test.
Aside from tuning up the squad for the season ahead and giving valuable reps to as many players as possible, the two teams will also be hoping to avoid any serious injuries. The Vikings lost wide receiver Rondale Moore to a season-ending knee injury against the Texans, and long-term injury to another roster candidate is the last thing they’ll want from this Saturday’s game.
Read on to find out how you can watch this game and which players to keep an eye on.

Players to watch

Max Brosmer
First of all, there are quite a few ex-Vikings on the Patriots roster: Stefon Diggs, Vedarian Lowe, Garrett Bradbury, Khyiris Tonga, Jaquelin Roy, Marcus Epps, Joshua Dobbs and John Parker Romo are all back in the Twin Cities for this tune-up week against their former team. But our focus is of course on the current crop of Vikings. Some really stood out against the Texans and we’ll be looking to see if it was just a flash in the pan or if they can maintain those performance levels for another week. Meanwhile, some failed to live up to expectations, and this game will provide an opportunity for them to bounce back and stake a claim to a spot on the final 53.
- RB Zavier Scott
- Jess says: “I think we’ve got to keep an eye on him now he’s come out, and he’s clearly come out hungry, fighting for that RB3 spot. I think he’s going to be the one to watch. I want to see what he’s going to do up against a different defense; whether he’s still got that same energy to prove that he’s got it now we’ve seen that Ty Chandler isn’t really, probably the one to have there.”

 - G Donovan Jackson
- John says: “I’d like to see Donovan Jackson get a bit more practice on that line, get a bit more game-ready. You can see he’s got the attributes but he just needs to get up to NFL speed because there’s a big difference – especially on the O-line – going from college to the NFL; there’s a big jump.”
 - Reece says: “Donovan Jackson has to show some fight. If he does play, I’d be maybe a little bit concerned; I feel like it’s the ‘Ed Ingram treatment’, but that was very different, where they were like, ‘You’ve got to show us something’. This is more of a case of, ‘Well, we’re gonna see what the next two weeks are going to be like for you.’

 - QB Max Brosmer
- Reece says: “This is the game for Max Brosmer. You’re going to see more of him, you’re going to see more of Brett Rypien. This game is the one that’s going to determine whether you can be snuck through onto the practice squad or not. Because there’s already people going, ‘he’s better than what we’ve put out there’, i.e. the Houston Texans. If he plays the way he did – I mean, the touchdown pass where he went through three, four reads before even making the touchdown pass. And he threw two touchdowns in that game; he had one ripped away and then immediately came back and was successful. He’s the one you’ve got to watch because if he plays like he did last week, then it’s a roster spot and it’s a case of Brett Rypien, I guess you’ll come back on the practice squad yourself.”

Previous meetings
This is the Vikings’ sixth preseason meeting with the Patriots, who hold a 3-2 record in the series to date. The Vikings closed the gap in the two teams’ last preseason encounter, although you’d have to go all the way back to 1998 for it. Rookie wide receiver Randy Moss was making his professional debut, and marked it with his first pro touchdown on a 44-yard pass from Randall Cunningham as the Vikings went on to whitewash the Patriots 28-0 at Foxboro Stadium.
The Patriots also hold the advantage in regular season clashes, leading the series 9-5, although five of those wins came in a streak spanning 16 years while Tom Brady was under center for the Pats. The two teams’ most recent meeting came on Thanksgiving in 2022, when the Vikings snapped that five-game losing streak with a 33-26 come-from-behind win at US Bank Stadium. TJ Hockenson recorded his first touchdown in purple and Kene Nwangwu notched a 97-yard kickoff return TD, setting up Adam Thielen for the game-winning score midway through the fourth quarter.
