Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings
U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN
November 16, 2025 – 6 p.m. BST

J. J. McCarthy orchestrated an 11-point fourth-quarter comeback against the Bears in week 1
It’s back to square one for the Vikings this weekend, with the reverse fixture against the team they faced in week 1 of the season: the Chicago Bears. J. J. McCarthy orchestrated a fourth-quarter comeback 10 weeks ago against his hometown team, but he’s yet to record a home win since becoming the Vikings’ starter under center.
The loss to the Ravens was marked by a catalogue of errors by the Vikings, but perhaps a game against a divisional opponent could provide the same boost as the game against the Lions two weeks ago. The Vikings have won three of their last four at home to the Bears, but their divisional rivals have only lost one of their last seven games, scoring at least 24 points in each of those six wins.

As the home team, the Vikings have first choice of uniforms for this game. They’ve opted to wear their primary home uniforms of purple jerseys and white pants, which means the Bears will wear their primary road uniforms of white jerseys and navy blue pants.
Keys to the game

S Harrison Smith will play his 200th game for the Vikings on Sunday
Safety Harrison Smith is set to play his 200th game for the Vikings since being selected with the 29th overall pick of the 2012 draft. Only five players have played in more games for the Vikings than Smith, and his experience will be invaluable against the Bears on Sunday. The defensive secondary has struggled all season, partially due to the increased demands on the 36-year-old Notre Dame alum. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was able to pick all sorts of holes in the Vikings defense in week 1, so patching those holes will be a priority this weekend, albeit against a banged-up Chicago receiving corps.
After notching his first touchdown since the season opener against the Lions, Justin Jefferson came back to Earth with a bump against the Ravens, managing just 37 yards. The Vikings also really struggled on third and fourth downs, converting just 3 of their 14 third-down attempts and 2 of 5 on fourth. More notable, though, was that every single one of those attempts was called as a pass play, although two turned into runs as McCarthy was flushed from the pocket. Kevin O’Connell will have to learn to trust his running backs more in third-and-short situations if this team is going to have any more offensive success.
Previous meetings
As divisional opponents, the Vikings and the Bears have one of the longest rivalries in the NFL. Sunday’s game will be the 130th meeting between them – including one playoff clash in 1995 – and a Vikings win would be their 70th in the series. The Bears have only won one of the last nine meetings between the two sides, a 12–10 victory at U.S. Bank Stadium on Monday Night Football on Thanksgiving weekend in 2023. It’s a game this fan club remembers well, as it marked the occasion of our first ever club trip to Minneapolis, thanks to the folks at Touchdown Trips.
Nevertheless, the Vikings are on a three-game win streak against the Bears, culminating with a fourth-quarter comeback victory on Monday Night Football in week 1 of this season. Trailing 17–6 going into the fourth quarter, J. J. McCarthy threw for two touchdowns and ran for one more to give the Vikings a 27–24 win.
Vikings injury report
The Vikings have ruled out two players for Sunday’s game against the Bears, both of which were expected absences. OLB Jonathan Greenard suffered a shoulder injury against the Ravens on Sunday and didn’t practice all week, while C Ryan Kelly has been in the concussion protocol since the game against the Steelers in Dublin and only had his 21-day window to return to the active roster opened on Wednesday.
No other players received an injury designation, although several players were limited during the week, including G Will Fries (calf), RB Aaron Jones (shoulder/toe), S Josh Metellus (foot) and OLB Andrew Van Ginkel, who has been feeling the effects of a neck injury since week 4. QB J. J. McCarthy was officially limited on Wednesday due to having to wear a bandage on a hand injury suffered against the Ravens, but is expected to start against the Bears.
Bears injury report
The Bears had an extensive injury list going into Sunday’s game, but only two players have been ruled out as of Friday’s press conference: LB T. J. Edwards (hand/hamstring) and WR Jahdae Walker (concussion). Two defensive backs were listed as questionable: Jaquan Brisker (back) only managed limited involvement in Friday’s practice, while Jaylon Johnson (groin) had his 21-day window to return from injured reserve activated during the week.
Several starters were listed on the injury report throughout the week, including DL Grady Jarrett, OL Joe Thuney, TE Cole Kmet, RB D’Andre Swift, WRs D. J. Moore and Rome Odunze, and DBs Josh Blackwell and Kevin Byard, but all were full participants by the final practice session on Friday.
